Artist Statement

Power Point

I composed this genre because it is a familiar one to me, and I knew that I could use it to expand on my essay buy providing some basic information on the more common anabolic steroids.

Yes, I have composed in this genre on numerous occasions.

I knew from the beginning that my first and lengthiest genre would be the powerpoint, so I started working on it first and had finished it before moving on to my next genre.

To start off my work on this genre,I began by researching some of the most commonly used anabolic steroids. Once I had gathered this information, I started putting together my powerpoint, with each slide being dedicated to providing general information such as uses and side effects for the chosen steroid. Thankfully I was able to find all the information i needed on one website, so my research for this genre wasn't very difficult. After I had put the information I wanted on the slide, I went and added a picture to go along with the description of it, for all the slides I simply took a picture of the actual drug itself from Google. After having done all this, I was finished with the powerpoint.

My audience for this genre is anyone who is interested in finding out more about the different steroids that are used in bodybuilding. This includes people who are interested in trying them for themselves, and people who are interested in the sport of bodybuilding itself.

 

Poem

I composed this genre because again, it is familiar to me. I also chose it because instead of just providing information like my other two genres, with this one I could be a bit more creative and maybe express what it's like for someone obsessed with their physique to make use of performance enhancing drugs.

Again, I have used this genre on numerous occasions, especially in my first Semester here at FSU.

I began this genre after I had finished my first one, and stuck with it until I had finished it.

With this genre, I began by deciding what kind of poem I wanted to create. After some consideration, I eventually settled on a persona poem, since with those you don't need to rhyme and I’d be able to create a poem based on the point of view of a steroid user. After deciding what kind of poem I would be creating, it was simply a matter of putting it together and formatting it properly and then posting it to my website.

My audience for this specific genre is anyone who is interested in getting into the mind of a bodybuilder. I used this poem to put the reader in the shoes of someone who makes use of these drugs in their pursuit of constantly increasing the weight they can lift, as well as their physique. So if there's someone who is interested in the thought process of a bodybuilder, I believe this poem is a fairly good source for that.

 

Poster

Similar to the other genres I had created, I made this one because I was familiar with it since I have used it in the past. I also chose this genre because I figured it wouldn't be quite as lengthy as my previous ones.

As stated, I have worked with this genre before. I will admit however, it has been sometime since I've created a poster, so making one again proved to be somewhat difficult.

This was my third and final genre that I worked on, therefore I was able to focus entirely on collecting the required information and pictures and putting it onto a poster.

With this genre, I began by deciding what I wanted the poster to be about. Since I had already done my powerpoint on the general uses and characteristics of the more popular steroids and had done my poem form the point of view of a steroid user, I decided that I would create a poster which focused solely on the side effects of steroid use. I made a couple of paragraphs that discussed steroid use side effects, and then got some pictures off of google images to make the poster more visually appealing. Finally I printed out everything and put it on my poster, and then uploaded it to my Wix site.

This genre is similar my first one in that the audience it appeals to is largely similar. Both genres are made for those who are interested in the sport of bodybuilding and the steroids that are often used in it, or just for those with an interest of the effects of steroids on the body. How my poster differs from the powerpoint however is that the poster is geared more towards teaching people about the negative side effects of steroids, and even goes on to warn against their use.

Not really anything I can think of other than what Ive said about making these compositions other than that it was interesting trying to form new genres for my research paper.
