Response to The Freedom of Real Apologies

In this moment in the podcast, Layli Long soldier is referring to the official apology that the United States government gave to the native people in 2009. What makes it noteworthy that she hasn't heard it before is that it was supposed to be this grand apology from the United state government to the native people but was done in such an informal and hushed way that a citizen of the Oglala Lakota Nation hadn't even heard about such an apology being made.

She points to this specific phrasing found in the apology because in her words it sounds almost poetic in the way they describe the arrival of the Europeans, as they refer to conflicts and lives being lost rather than the massacres of natives that often occur.
