Response to fear and loathing

When Ben Tyler from the podcast Fear and Loathing begins his research into immigration in his home town of Homer and around the world with a simple Google search. In the blog, the narrator explains how Ben would stay up into the late hours of the night researching about immigration, analyzing news articles that described events where hundreds of women were sexually assaulted by immigrants and other similarly horrific events that seemed to be caused by an influx of these immigrants. By only really analyzing news articles which seem to emphasize the negative aspects of immigration, Ben became somewhat paranoid about the immigration crisis, even going so far as to question the authenticity of sources that told the point of view from immigrants who were simply trying to escape war and persecution. Due to the way he went about conducting his research, Ben became paranoid and untrusting of immigrants, largely in part because he was using biased and not credible sources for his research.

Whenever I am collecting sources for a research essay, in order to ensure that sources I use are credible, I mainly just attempt to stay away from using wikipedia as my primary source. Jokes aside, when I am collecting potential sources for an essay I always try to make sure that it is a scholarly and trusted source so that I know it is a reliable source of information.

I do believe that people can discuss controversial issues without being biased, however, I believe that this i very difficult to do. People are naturally going to be biased towards one side of an argument or another, and looking past one's own beliefs and ideas to view something objectively and in a logical and fair light takes a lot of discipline and control

For my research paper I have decided to research the bodybuilding community. I decided on this specific community primarily because it genuinely interests me, and I know that conducting research about it won't be too much of a chore because of this.
